The Italian trifle roll is a delicious and original version of the classic trifle. The main ingredients are of course traditional: The ladyfingers are dipped in Alchemy, a liqueur with a fruity aftertaste and a distinctive red colour, and stacked in a single layer, filled with vanilla custard and dark chocolate pieces. Finally, everything is carefully wrapped to obtain a soft roll. The end result is a dessert that cuts and spoons, perfect for ending a meal during a dinner party with guests. So let’s learn how to make the perfect Italian sandwich by following our step-by-step recipe.

How to make an Italian rolling pin

Prepare the syrup. Put the alchimeliqueur, the crystallized sugar and the water in a pan, put it on the fire and let it reduce to half (1). Then turn off the stove and let it cool.

Get the pudding ready. Mix the flour and sugar in a pan, then add the eggs (2) and mix well.

Pour in the milk, heat with the lemon rind (3), return to the heat and cook until the mixture is thick and creamy. Turn off the stove and let cool.

Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the work surface and cover it with a sheet of tape. Dip the ladyfingers in the syrup and place them in two rows (4).

If you have a rectangle, now pour in the cold pudding and spread it out with the back of a spoon (5).

Sprinkle with chocolate chips (6).

Use cling film and foil to gently roll up the cake (7).

Form it into a roll, close it like a chocolate bar (8) and put it in the fridge overnight.

After resting, transfer the Italian roll to a serving dish and top with whipped cream and chocolate chips, if desired. Sprinkle generously with icing sugar and serve in slices (9).

How to store an Italian rolling pin

The Italian roulade can be stored in the refrigerator 1-2 days, sealed on the surface with a sheet of plastic wrap.
