Cranberry Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe

The “cranberry whiskey cocktail recipe” is a drink that is made with cranberry juice and whiskey. It is traditionally served in a small glass, but can also be served in a rocks glass or on the rocks.

This classic cocktail is a true American favorite. It’s made with the cranberry juice, orange liqueur and sugar syrup which takes it back to its roots in America before Prohibition. The drink was traditionally served on Christmas Eve-it became associated with that holiday because of its dark color and sweet taste for when you don’t want anything too strong like whiskey or bourbon.

Bourbon, bitters, simple syrup, and an orange twist are used to make an Old Fashioned. It’s a traditional drink for a reason, and we believe the addition of cranberry simple syrup makes it even more festive.

To demonstrate how adaptable a flavored simple syrup can be, we’ve added cranberries to this traditional drink. The cocktail has a strong cranberry taste, but it doesn’t dominate the Bourbon, which is still the star of the show.

The gorgeous color that cranberry simple syrup offers to this drink is one of its best features. It’s quite gorgeous, and it’ll make a great accent to your Christmas cocktail party.

A fine bourbon is always the foundation of an Old Fashioned. Bulleit Bourbon is a favorite of ours. It’s the perfect mix of taste and price for a drink.

Making a cranberry simple syrup is the next step. This simple syrup, which we use in this Old Fashioned, is one of my favorites since it can be used in so many various drinks. In a Dark & Stormy, a Bourbon Smash, or a Moscow Mule, it’s a must-try.

The entire directions for making cranberry simple syrup can be found in this article, but the short version is to cook cranberries with water and sugar until they burst and the liquid becomes a beautiful hue.

The liquid should next be strained through a fine mesh screen to remove all of the skins and pulp.

Before adding the simple syrup in your drink, make sure it has had enough time to cool. If it’s still warm, the ice will melt into your drink more quickly than you’d want.

The cranberry simple syrup will stay in the refrigerator for up to a week, so you won’t have to create another batch for this or any of the other beverages we recommended.

This cocktail is best served in a low ball or whiskey glass. Because there isn’t much liquid, a large glass isn’t necessary. Although sugaring the rim is optional, it improves the appearance of the drink.

If you have one large ice cube, or a bunch of little ones, toss them in. You don’t want to dilute the drink, but it’ll taste better if it’s slightly cooled. Another option is to freeze approximately 10 fresh cranberries and use them as the drink’s ice.

Making cocktail, pouring in bourbon

In a tumbler, combine the cranberry simple syrup, Bourbon, and ice. To combine the components, stir them together. To serve, garnish with 2 drops of Angostura bitters and a few cranberries.

I also like to add a sprig of rosemary to the glass for scent. You may add an orange peel for a citrus flavor or leave it plain.
