It is one of our family’s favorite snacks. We make them for almost any occasion, including board game days, Christmas and New Year’s parties, and movie nights.

They’re easy to make, and everyone loves the delicious cheese bacon they’re dipped in after baking.

My only complaint about these little pieces is that they don’t look as good from the oven. The cheese has a tendency to drip from the top of the peppers. But it’s just a matter of aesthetics. They taste great.

One of the keys to good jalapeño poppers is bacon. Since there are many types of lard, you need to choose the one that suits them. I like to use thinly sliced bacon (without a center) that comes in long strips.

If the jalapenos you buy are small, like the ones in the picture, just cut the bacon in half horizontally. Half a piece of bacon wraps nicely around a small piece of bell pepper.

If the peppers are larger, you can cut the bacon vertically to make long, thin strips. It’s best to wrap these long strips around a large pepper and anchor them in the cheese, that’s the key.

  • 12 Jalapeño shots, approx. 3-4 cm long
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, shaved
  • 3/4 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 12 thinly sliced tub


  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Celsius (200C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray non-stick spray on it.
  2. Cut the jalapenos in half and remove the ribs and seeds. If you leave more, the heat will increase.
  3. Mix cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic and cumin in a bowl until smooth.
  4. Fill each pepper half with the filling and then wrap it with a bacon half.
  5. Bake 15-18 minutes, until bacon is browned.


If you don’t like hot peppers, remove all seeds and ribs. For more zest, you can leave out some of the spices.

You can cut the bacon in half lengthwise to cover a larger area if your peppers are larger.
