Now, I’m not saying that this method will have you eating chicken legs at every meal, but this is the stuff you want to cook with when you’re time is limited, and you want to have some kind of protein in your meal.

How to prepare chicken legs with lollipops

If you’re making these bacon-wrapped chicken thighs as an appetizer for a party, it’s best to make them as simple (and clean) as possible. Lollipoping is a great way to do this, and it doesn’t require much preparation time. Of course, you can skip this step if you don’t serve them that way and don’t need or want a clean pen.

Using kitchen scissors or a knife, remove the skin and connective tissue from the end of the leg, exposing the bone, then remove the skin. I strip the whole leg, not just around the bone. You can omit it, but the finished product will be oilier and won’t cook and brown as easily.

Use a sharp chef’s knife and cut off the bone just below the joint. You can then cut away all the skin and cartilage to get a clean handle. To prevent the ends of the bones from burning during cooking, wrap them in aluminum foil.

How do I prepare chicken legs wrapped in bacon?

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 C). You can also use a hot air fryer if you have one. If I’m only making one batch, I prefer the hot air fryer because there’s less mess, the drumsticks can be flipped more easily for even cooking, and they come out crispier and more evenly browned in my opinion.

Place the drumsticks in a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and stir. You can use your hands to ensure that the olive oil is evenly distributed over the entire surface. Season with salt and pepper.

Wrap each leg tightly with a strip of bacon. Place the drumsticks with the bacon strips facing down on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the drumsticks and bake for another 20 minutes. Check the internal temperature of the chicken. The temperature should be 165 degrees F. At this point, you can brush the drumsticks with extra olive oil or fat dripping onto the griddle and turn them every 3 minutes to brown the entire surface.

Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the chicken thighs. I think it takes between 30 minutes for small pieces and 50 minutes for large drumsticks. Keep an eye on them and use a thermometer to check if the meat is done.

What to serve with bacon-wrapped chicken legs

We almost always serve these chicken fillets as an appetizer, usually with beer or wine as a party dish. Here are some other tasty snacks you can serve at her party. I think they go especially well with other appetizers like homemade soft pretzels or baked pizza.

You can also serve them as a main course with almost any side dish. They make an excellent main course for the barbecue. They can be prepared directly on the grill if you are having a party or barbecue outdoors. Serve with coleslaw or crisp broccoli salad. In the cold season, they go well with mashed potatoes or roasted Brussels sprouts.

You don’t have to smear the ends of the chicken with lollipops. This was done for visual reasons and for ease of use.

The cooking time depends on the size of the chicken legs. Bake until internal temperature is 165 degrees or until bacon is fully cooked and browned.

You can drizzle the drumsticks with a honey butter sauce or BBQ sauce if you want to give them more flavor. Or serve with a dipping sauce.
